Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a bunch of questions I get asked all the time! If you have a question that isn’t answered here, feel free to email me via the contact page, or message me on social media!
How do I download the crochet pattern I bought on Etsy or Ravelry?
Ah, my most asked question. I have the answer for you on this page here!
How long have you been crocheting and how did you learn?
I learned how to crochet (and knit!) the summer after I graduated high school, in 2007! It was a great way to unwind after 12 very long years hahaha. I learned by watching youtube videos.
Do you use USA or UK crochet terms?
USA!
How can I learn to crochet?
Take my class! I'll teach you the basics of how to crochet, including what hooks and yarn to buy, how to hold the hook, and how to read crochet patterns!
What are some good beginner patterns?
Well you can try some of my free patterns, but honestly I’d start with youtube. Just type “beginner crochet pattern” into search and see what comes up!
Will you make videos?
I’m planning to make some videos soon. :)
What crochet hooks do you use?
My absolute favorite hooks are actually from Daiso! Yes, seriously. I just love the shape and size of the handles.
What yarns do you use?
Currently my favorite yarns are from WeCrochet!
I want to start writing crochet patterns. Do you have any advice?
Just jump in and do it! Take tons and tons of notes while you crochet, and take photos every single step of the way. Model your pattern on patterns you liked from other people. Don’t copy them, of course, just use the layouts & flows as inspiration. Think about what features you’ve seen in really easy-to-follow patterns and emulate them! If you’re too nervous to charge money, offer them for free to start, and if you get good feedback, start selling!
How did you get started selling patterns?
I have a constant desire to make new things, and as a pattern designer, I’m forced to make new things constantly! It seemed like a really obvious choice when I thought about it. I sold my first crochet pattern in 2013 and I’ve never wanted to do anything else but make more patterns!
Can I sell items made from your patterns?
Yes! You can sell items made from my paid or free patterns. If selling online, add “Pattern by HELLOhappy” to your item description. If selling in person at a market, it’s a little harder to give credit, but if anyone asks, tell them it’s a pattern from HELLOhappy & that you can find it on Ravelry or Etsy! :) You may NOT redistribute or resell my patterns. You may NOT use any of my photos in any online listings for sale. You MAY use my photos to promote my patterns, for instance on your blog or social media account, as long as it is expressly promoting HELLOhappy.
