Crochet Pattern: Buttercream hat & fingerless gloves set

I am sooo excited to share my latest crochet pattern with you guys! It's up on Etsy & Ravelry! Dunno about you guys, but for months, every time I walked past the Buttercream thick & thin yarn at Joann IT HURT, because I had absolutely no reason to buy it! [update 7/21/20: this yarn has been discontinued]

Just look at that yarn, how can you not want to squish it?! Hnnnnng

I'm very much into the minimalism mentality-if it has no purpose, get rid of it/don't buy it. My house does not reflect this attitude aesthetically, however, but my wallet does! So I started thinking about a pattern about 6 months ago, and I finally had time in my schedule to make it!

And here's what I came up with! A simple, knit-look hat & fingerless gloves set with pompoms. And the best part is you only need 1 skein!! You'll even have enough leftover to make something tiny, like a pompom for another hat, or a wall hanging! In fact I have an idea for a wall hanging I'll link to here when I post it. :)

Supplies

  • 1 skein of Buttercream Luxe Craft Thick & Thin Yarn

  • 88g/55 yards of a super bulky yarn. Ideally you'd want a wool/acrylic blend to match the blend of the buttercream thick and thin. Buttercream makes a regular super bulky alpaca yarn, but I used Lion Brand wool ease thick n quick because I liked the tone of their cream better, it was warmer-colored.

  • Tapestry needle

  • Pompom maker (optional, can make by hand)

I definitely don't recommend using any other yarn besides Buttercream Luxe Craft Thick & Thin Yarn. It's classified as a weight 6, but the skinny parts are like a 4, and the thick parts are like an 8. Maybe even a 10, it's thick! I just don't think any other yarn would work properly, and you'd have to make a lot of adjustments.

I really love how the texture turned out using the buttercream yarn. And, let's be real, this set totally reminds you of cupcakes, right?? So I went with the name of the yarn, buttercream, as the name of this set, because it looks like you're wearing buttercream frosted cupcakes. :)

Now run over to Etsy or Ravelry and grab the crochet pattern! You too can evolve into a buttercream frosted cupcake. ;)
