Free crochet pattern: Lazy kitty amigurumi

I'm back with a new free crochet pattern! This time it's for this cute little lazy kitty. It's a really simple pattern so I didn't take any in-progress pictures. Hopefully you can figure it out without them!

The body is actually made by crocheting 2 circles, then sewing them together, rather than in one continuous piece.

Supplies

  • worsted weight yarn in two colors + black

  • 4mm hook

  • eyes (I used scrapbooking brads, about 6mm)

  • tapesty needle

  • stuffing (scrap yarn is great, no need for polyfill)

Body

Okay, now make two circles with your main yarn.

Make a magic ring of 6

R1: 2sc into each st (12)

R2: sc in first 2 st, 2sc in next 3 st, sc in next 3 st, 2sc into next 3 st, sc in last st (18)

R3: To work this row, do sc x the number indicated into each st. So in the first 2 stitches, do 1 sc, in the 3rd do 2 sc, the next do 1 sc etc. (24)

1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1

R4: *sc, sc, 2sc* repeat entire row (32)

Stop here for your first circle & finish off. On your second circle, continue below:

R5-R6: sc into each st (32)

Finish off and leave a long tail to sew to the other piece.

Sew the two pieces together adding stuffing as you go. Make sure the oval shapes are lined up properly! Stop after you're about 3/4 done and attach your eyes, then finish sewing.

Ears (make 2)

Make a magic ring of 4

R1: *sc, 2sc* repeat (6)

Finish off, leave tail to sew on. Make one in your second color!

Legs (make 4)

Make a magic ring of 6

R1-R2: sc into each st

Finish off, leave tail to sew on. I made mine all the same color, but you can do it differently!

Tail

Make a magic ring of 6 with second color

R1-R2: sc into each st

Switch back to main color

R3-R6: sc into each st

Finish off, leave tail to sew on.

Sew on the parts, then do the whiskers and stripes! The whiskers are just one strand of yarn, looped around one time, and the stripes are looped around 3 times.

If you want it to look super cute on a shelf, just grab some scrap yarn & wind it into a ball and set it on your kitty's tummy! You could also wrap & glue some yarn around a small wooden or styrofoam ball & glue that onto your kitty if you're into that. ;)

Alrighty, that'll about do it! Hope you like this simple little pattern. I've actually had this kitty doodled in my pattern notebook for about 6 months so I'm glad I finally went and made it! If you'd like to share this on pinterest, please use the image below:
